Teaching Philosophy: "My teaching philosophy is that I believe that people learn best when their instrumental ambitions align with the music that resonates with them the most on an emotional level. I encourage students to seek out music that inspires them to become self-motivated as musicians. I believe that everybody has a unique way of expressing themselves creatively, and I seek to help students discover their optimal form of musical expression. This philosophy originated from my first guitar teacher. From the moment in fifth grade when my dad sang me the riff to Deep Purple's "Smoke On The Water" while raking leaves, I knew that I wanted to play guitar. A few years later, my teacher, after teaching me the fundamentals of the instrument, effectively let me choose my own curriculum. I progressed rapidly on the instrument because I knew what type of music I wanted to play before I even started playing. I want to help my students find the type of music that inspires their musical daydreams, and then help them achieve those aspirations."
Biography: Allegedly, my first real emotional interaction with music occurred prior to me even being born. My parents were watching a Bob Dylan tribute on TV when Eric Clapton came on. He played an uptempo song, and I began dancing to the music. My parents claim that it was at this moment that they realized I was destined to be musical. As a child, I was exposed to my father's wide-ranging musical tastes, and I developed a strong affinity for The Beatles around the time I was in fourth grade. When I was nine, I began playing clarinet. At age fourteen I picked up the electric guitar, due largely in part to my love for classic rock and heavy metal bands such as Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, and Aerosmith. Ultimately, I branched out into other instruments such as electric bass, piano, and ukulele. Some of my favorite musical artists now are Steely Dan, Queens Of The Stone Age, Tool, and jazz-fusion guitarist Mike Stern. I have played in numerous musical projects over the years, ranging in genre from jazz to pop to heavy metal. Much of my musical focus has been and continues to be on recording original music, and I received some radio airplay for a few of one of my previous musical project's songs.
