Teaching Philosophy: "As an educator, I strive to give each student a safe environment where they feel comfortable and open enough to experiment and take risks. It’s not until we overcome our fear of making mistakes or looking silly that we’re able to truly make art!It is my responsibility not only to teach my students the technical and musical skills necessary to give them a solid vocal foundation, but to teach and encourage them to be a responsible co-partner in their own musical education and the confidence they need to feel capable of taking on that role. I encourage students to take initiative when it comes to the nature of their repertoire and their goals as a musician and a performer, while making sure that they know I am more than happy to help in any capacity.

Singing is a very unique instrument, because that instrument is the human body! It’s also the only instrument that is capable of both music and words. I believe in a holistic approach to singing that involves awareness of the body, connection to the text, and a dedication to creative story telling in order to create a comprehensive and engaging musical performance!"

Leo Balkovetz is a performer of operatic, choral and chamber music in the Boston area. In 2018, he graduated with a Master's of Music in Historical Voice Performance from the Longy School of Music where he sang the role of Vaguas in Vivaldi's Juditha Triumphans with Early Music group Eudaimonia.

He has also performed in "La Clemenza di Tito" (Annius), "Cendrillon" (6th Spirit) and “La Sonnambula” (Notary)with Promenade Opera Project and the Alto Soloist in Bach's Cantata BWV 54 with First Lutheran Church in Boston. He is the alto section leader of Commonwealth Chorale in Newton, MA where he was a featured soloist in Menotti's "The Unicorn, the Gorgon and the Manticore” and in the Paul Madore Choir as the Tenor Soloist for the Mozart Requiem. He is also a member of the Schola Choir at the Cathedral of St. Paul in Boston where he recently sang as a soloist for Handel’s Messiah.

Leo has been teaching since 2016. She teaches online and in person with
