Teaching Philosophy: "I hope to help students achieve their goals and fall in love with music. I want my students to experience joy while learning and making music, but it is also very important for me that they learn theory and have a solid technique."

Biography: Mariela Flores has a Master’s degree in Harp Performance from the Boston Conservatory where she studied under the tutelage of Cynthia Price-Glynn and Ina Zdorovetchi.

Born in San Jose, Costa Rica, Mariela started her musical studies at the National Institute of Music at the age of 12. After winning a competition for young musicians, she debuted as a soloist with Costa Rica’s National Orchestra in 2007.

In 2012 Ms. Flores earned her Bachelor of Music from Washburn University, Kansas, under the guidance of harpist Tabitha Reist-Steiner. She was part of the Washburn Holiday Vespers Concert 2011 with television broadcast by KTWU and performed in rock band Kansas anniversary DVD “There’s Know Place Like Home” filmed in 2009.

Ms. Flores has participated in several music festivals like Brevard Music Center, Music Festival of Santa Catarina and Rio Harp Festival in Brazil, Symphony Orchestra of the Pacific in Canada, the Boston Harp Festival, and the Catedra Salvi de Arpa in Colombia. She performed in masterclasses for well-known harpists such as Sivan Magen, Emmanuel Ceysson, Rita Constanzi and Elizabeth Heinen.

Mariela recently relocated to Boston with her husband. Before that, she was the principal harpist of two independent orchestras in Costa Rica, taught privately and at a music school, and was a freelance performer.

She started teaching in 2013 and has been with Note-worthy Experiences since April 2022.
