Annual Merit Scholarship Competition
Merit Scholarship Competition Guidelines
The 2022 NWE Merit Scholarship Competition will consist of two age groups (dependent on the number of participants), and the winner of each age group will be awarded a $200 cash prize. The non refundable entry fee is $40 per student which is due prior to February 5th. Payment may be made online through Zelle or Venmo, or sent by check to 75 Witherell Drive, Sudbury. MA 01776.
Students ages 9 - 17 are welcome to participate. The scholarship competition is a wonderful opportunity for students to gain performance experience and receive valuable feedback from a panel of experienced musicians.

Both Rounds

Recorded Round 1 - February 5, 2022, 11:59 PM
- Students may not submit a piece that was previously submitted in a NWE competition
- Students should prepare two pieces of contrasting styles /eras
- Videos should be unedited and loaded into a link or format that the judges can access (an MP4 is preferred)
- Students should submit a completed copy of the top of the below evaluation form for the judge to use
- Students must submit copies of the scores used to learn the pieces
- One email with all the evaluation form, scores and video links should be submitted
- Video submissions should be emailed to rbordner@note-worthyexperiences.com
- No late entries will be accepted, no exception
Final LIVE Round - May 22, 2022, 1:00 PM
- Finalists should prepare four pieces of at least two contrasting styles / eras
- Finalists may play pieces from the first round
- This round will be live at Note-worthy Experiences Music Studio. If a participant does not live in the Boston Metr0West Area and is a NWE student he or she may participate via a live online audition
- Finalists should complete the top portion of the judges score sheet with all pieces listed and then bring one copy for each of the three judges
- Finalists should bring a copy of the music score for each piece for each of the three judges
- In the event of a tie for the final round, the scores from the first round will be used. In the event that the first round scores were also a tie, then co-winners will be named and the prize amount will be divided among the winners
Both Rounds
- All pieces must be memorized
- Pieces must be at least 16 measures long
- Professional behavior and attire are expected
- Students with outstanding tuition invoices are not eligible to participate
- Students under the age of 9 on February 5th may not participate
- Students over the age of 17 on May 22nd may not participate
- Students must be registered with NWE and actively taking lessons in order to be eligible to participate
- All videos are subject to be shared on NWE social media
- A FREE online workshop for participants, parents of participants and instructors of participants will be held on June 6th at 7:30 at 75 Witherell Drive Sudbury. Attendees may join virtually as well.
