Biography: Sam McClurg is a drummer, percussionist and composer living in Boston Massachusetts. He specializes in improvised music, but his global approach to drumming has resulted in his working in a variety of disciplines ranging from small and large jazz ensembles to Indian and Middle Eastern Fusion bands to South American and Caribbean Jazz groups. He has toured on three continents, and he has a passion for cross-cultural music exchange.
He has shared the stage with artists such as Andre Hayward, Aaron Janik, Chad LB, Marquis Hill, Danilo Perez and The Children of the Light Trio, Sindhu Vasudevan (recording only) and tabla virtuoso Ishaan Ghosh. He has also played in the house band at the Mad Monkfish and at The Wally’s Jazz Club. Sam also has a degree from the Berklee College of Music where he studied at the Global Jazz Institute for two years. He currently works out of his studio in Boston's Jamaica Plains Neighborhood as a freelance artist, educator, and as jazz drum set accompanist at MIT.
Sam began teaching in 2015 and joined Note-worthy Experiences in January 2025.
