Teaching Philosophy: "When teaching trumpet, my philosophy is first and foremost to cultivate an individualized appreciation and positive connection to making music. I always use one-on-one time with students to nurture this joy of playing, while providing the best possible information to set them up for success according to their own goals."
Biography: A native of Reading, Massachusetts, trumpeter Thomas Gray is energized and focused on establishing a career of musical excellence in the greater Boston area.
Having performed in multiple District and All-State festivals throughout middle and high school, Thomas attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he earned his Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance and studied under Eric Berlin, principal trumpet of the Albany Symphony and Dr. Steven Felix of Flower City Brass.
As a soloist, Thomas is a two-time winner of the International Trumpet Guild Scholarship Competition in 2020 and 2021. He has also performed in the National Trumpet Competition Large Ensemble division with the UMass Trumpet Ensemble.
An avid supporter of the marching arts, Thomas performed in the 2018 Boston Crusaders Drum & Bugle Corps under the instruction of some of the foremost brass educators in the field, such as Gino Cipriani, Evan Berry and Jarrett Lipman. He also performed in select ensembles and as a soloist with the UMass Minuteman Marching Band, in addition to serving as a Field Staff instructor for the trumpet section.
A passionate and dedicated teacher since 2015, Thomas has taught students of varying ages and skill levels for the past seven years. Currently, Thomas maintains a freelancing career in the Greater Boston Area as well as a growing studio of fantastic students. Thomas joined Note-worthy Experiences in August 2022 and teaches brass instruments.
