Teaching Philosophy: "Over my years as a musician, I have found the study of music a wonderful opportunity to cultivate discipline, poise, patience, and sensitivity. Each isolated challenge encountered in practice and performance offers itself up as a checkpoint toward greater ease and competence in every area of life. In working with students on specific skills--rhythm, phrase-shaping, reading, and the like--I try consciously to keep this bigger picture in mind. Of course, teaching itself presents its own challenges and checkpoints; learning how to attend to the wants, style, and peculiarities of each student is a process that continues without end. My top priorities as a teacher, then, are to help students achieve their musical goals, find joy for themselves and others through music, and establish great practice habits that can be applied in daily life. If, years down the line, a student of mine can look back and think of even one way they benefited holistically through piano lessons, I've done my job!"
