Teaching Philosophy: "I want to start with what has drawn my students to play an instrument and connect that to 400 years of music history, other arts, and disciplines outside of the arts, including what was happening in society at the time a composer or musician lived. The saxophone is somewhat of a musical chameleon. It’s a woodwind instrument, but made of brass, so in a concert band it can play with the flutes and clarinets or with the french horns and trombones. It’s also one of the only instruments that can be found in a jazz group, a rock band, or occasionally in an orchestra. I recognize that most students will not go on to a career in music, but I would like to develop students who are great patrons of music and will appreciate and recognize what makes great music."
