Teaching Philosophy: "The most important aspect of music education is reaching the students where they are. By understanding their experience, preferences, and musical goals, I can help guide them along a path toward excellence and a modern musical understanding. Over recent years, I’ve gained a wealth of classical and contemporary musical knowledge that I pass on to the next generation of musicians in a way that allows them to influence the world. I make practice fun, and it is easy for my students to see their improvement week over week. I love relating to my students’ interests and helping them form connections between music and other aspects of their lives."

Biography: Colton began playing the viola at the age of ten, and studied under several instructors until he began attending the Interlochen Arts Academy under the instruction of Reneé Skerik. He studied at the Academy for three years before attending the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, where he earned his Bachelor of Music in Viola Performance under the instruction of Lila Brown and Rictor Noren. As a performer, Colton has performed with several large ensembles and premiered many works in and around Boston, including performing as the principal violist for the Aeon Ensemble's Boston premiere and Boston Conservatory's recording premiere. He has played with many ballets and theater productions and enjoys playing music as part of larger artistic projects. Colton is currently developing his private teaching studio alongside teaching in organizations with the goal of giving back to underserved communities.

Colton began teaching in 2021 and joined Note-worthy Experiences in August 2023 where he teaches violin and viola.
