NWE Songwriting / Composing Competition Guidelines
Our 2023 Annual Songwriting/Composing Competition will be taking place in November 2023.
One check for $50 and one trophy will be awarded to the winner.
Winners will be recognized at all of the Annual Winter Holiday Recitals, our newsletters, and social media.

Rules:
- No late entries will be accepted, and no exceptions.
- The competition will close at midnight on November 15th, 2023.
- There is a $25 fee per submission.
- Multiple submissions can be entered.
- Solos, duets, small groups, ensembles, and bands may submit their work.
- Pieces must be at least 16 measures long.
- Students with outstanding tuition invoices are not eligible to participate.
- Students must be registered with NWE and actively taking lessons in order to be eligible to participate.
- All videos are subject to be shared on NWE social media.
- Students must submit the score and a recording (MP4 is preferred) in one email.

The purpose of the NWE Composition Contest is to promote music literacy, music theory, and music composition for all student levels. Compositions may be written in any style or genre and for any solo or combination of instruments or voices (instrumental, choral/vocal, or electronic).
Student compositions and recordings must be submitted electronically.
Compositions must be in the following formats:
a. [REQUIRED] A pdf file of the music written in traditional music notation.
Deadline for submissions on November 15, 2023 at midnight
Winners in each category will be notified at the beginning of December 2023.
Compositions will be assessed and ranked based on the rubric found on the NWE website.
Winners and their teachers will be recognized online (NWE website and social media channels) and at the NWE Annual Winter Holiday Recitals in December 2023. Winners will also be awarded a personalized trophy in recognition of their achievement.
Student compositions and recordings must be submitted electronically.
Compositions must be in the following formats:
a. [REQUIRED] A pdf file of the music written in traditional music notation.
- Music may be neatly handwritten on staff paper, then photocopied /scanned/photographed and converted to a PDF.
- Music may be written using a computer music writing program (Sibelius, Finale, Notion, etc.) and converted to a PDF.
