Teaching Philosophy: While performance is crucial to my livelihood and education, I find that teaching offers experiences that are just as necessary to my growth as a person and musician. How you convey information about music varies by each individual you address, and being relatable to each student is just as important as relating to your fellow bandmates. I want to cater my lessons to the individual. I do not use a canned teaching method, but rather, I want to find out what it is about music that excites and inspires the student I'm working with. Each student has a unique learning approach, and it is my priority to help them best utilize their approaches to foster their love of music.

Biography: My name is Rowan Barcham and I am a pianist and teacher. I began playing piano at 7 and eventually went on to pursue it seriously while I was a teenager at Booker T Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. From there I obtained my Bachelor's in Jazz Performance at the University of Miami's Frost School of Music Program, and am working towards my Masters of Music at New England Conservatory. Prior to moving to Boston, I had the privilege to play with a number of incredible musicians. These include Maria Schneider, Ingrid Jensen, Darmon Meader, Lucy Woodward, Ken Poplowski and Roxy Coss.

Although I primarily teach piano, I also offer lessons in music theory, improvisation, and composition for any instrument. I have experience teaching ages 5-elderly, ranging from beginner to professional.

Rowan has been teaching online and in-person lessons since 2014 and has been with Note-worthy Experiences since August 2019.
