Connor Vance: Music Teacher
Teaching Philosophy: "Everyone has the joy of music in them, I serve as a guide to help students find the voice within their unique learning style.
My teaching style focuses on: music enjoyment and appreciation; reading music notation; music theory; technique; exploration and improvisation; relaxing and being confident in music performance."

Biography: Yoham Ortiz is an accomplished composer, guitarist, producer, vocalist, and educator.  He has been performing, recording, and teaching music for over 20 years. He started his formal musical studies at age 10 and completed his first international tour at age 14. Yoham’s virtuosic guitar style fuses Classical with music of the Americas including Jazz, Rock,  and Caribbean alongside West African guitar styles.

Ortiz’s music albums and performances are featured on Spotify, Pandora radio, iTunes, iHeart radio, Sirius radio, WBGO Jazz 88.3 FM, WKCR 89.9 FM NYC, and many more.

On stage, Yoham performs solo, and with a variety of ensembles. He performs in concert halls and venues internationally including Lincoln Center NYC, Chicago’s Ravinia Festival,  JVC Jazz Festival, Boston Green Fest, The United Nations, Harvard University, Columbia  University, The Yale Club of NYC, Tempo Latino Festival in France, Festival del Caribe in  Cartagena Colombia, North East Jazz Festival, Heineken Jazz Festival in Curacao, Teatro  Nacional de Bellas Artes in Dominican Republic, Chicago Taste Festival and many more.  Yoham has had many television appearances including the B-Side, BRIC Arts Media, ATV  television in Turkey, and many more.

“To perform solo acoustic guitar is a bold statement in a time when audiences expect big, multi-dimensional sounds. Yoham's talent as a musician creates a heartfelt  ambiance that makes an immediate and intimate connection with his listeners.”- World  Music Central

Yoham has served as Musical Director for many musical productions and is often commissioned to compose, arrange, and orchestrate music for film, television, media, and recording artists. He is featured in recordings with Warren Smith, Don Cherry, Yomo Toro,  Cheick Tidiane Seck, Howard Johnson, Dave Valentin, Paquito de Rivera, and many others. His music has been commissioned and licensed by companies such as Scholastic,  PBS, Nickelodeon, Eclipse Films, Aqaba Fragrance, Kmart, Fox, Univision, Pantone Colors,  Anacostia Films, Prava Health, and Discovery.

As an educator, Yoham designed the Mr. Yoham program: an innovative curriculum for public and private early childhood and elementary school settings to introduce young children to music by focusing on the 3 basic steps that lead to creativity:  Inspiration→Thought→Communication®.

Yoham Ortiz holds a B.A. in Music from SUNY at Old Westbury and a Master of Arts from  NYU. Yoham’s study “Listening to the Language of the City: Understanding How  Communities of Sounds Inform the Soundscape of New York City” is part of an ongoing study of how the soundscape of cities influences people’s behavior while suggesting ways in which city soundscapes could be designed or composed- much like a musical score.

Yoham began teaching in 1989 and joined Note-Worthy Experiences in February 2024 where he teaches lessons in English and Spanish on the guitar, electric bass, and ukulele.
