Teaching Philosophy: “As a teacher, I believe the purpose of education is to foster independence. Students should be active participants in their own learning, while the teacher plays a passive role in the student’s learning process and acts as a resource to guide them through their learning. It is my belief that any student can succeed; the goal of education is to guide students to the point where they know how to use resources to teach themselves. I believe all students, regardless of socioeconomic status, or physical or intellectual ability, have a unique musical background and heritage to share. I aim to identify every student’s strengths and acknowledge his/her aesthetic values and musical choices. I encourage my students to take ownership of their music education and involve them in choosing music repertoire that they would like to learn. I believe it is a valuable opportunity for students to discover repertoire and explore their potential as musicians. It is my belief that all children are capable of musical learning, regardless of their diverse abilities. I offer many opportunities for students to showcase what they are learning, not just in performance, but also through reading, discussing, and creating music. It is my goal to establish an environment where students are in competition with themselves; students understand that their progress will be evaluated throughout the semester. My role as a music educator goes beyond building a musical teacher-student relationship. I believe collaboration and communication are the foundation of a successful education. The education of every child is a team effort, and frequent communication between homeroom teachers, administrators, parents, and other school professionals is key."
