Biography: Sarah Mitchell is a certified music educator in the state of Massachusetts, grades K-12, and has six years of experience teaching middle school and high school students. She earned a Bachelor of Music in Education from Western Michigan University, where she studied classical singing, piano, early music, choral methods, opera, musical theater singing techniques, cabaret, and pedagogy.
Sarah enjoys exploring a variety of singing styles for her students and varied approaches to music education rooted in a strong classical foundation. Sarah has taught chorus, music history, music technology, music theory, and private voice and piano lessons, and served as music director for productions including 42nd Street, Peter Pan, In the Heights, The Phantom of the Opera, and The Little Mermaid. In 2010, Sarah attended the AIMS Opera/German lieder summer program in Austria, as well as a choral tour of Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 in Mexico City.
Since moving to Boston in 2011, Sarah has remained active in performance, including voice masterclasses in Dartington, UK; The Conservatorium van Amsterdam, Carnegie Hall, Queens College, the Madison Early Music Festival, and the Amherst Early Music Festival. In 2015, Sarah was selected for the Boston Early Music Festival Young Artist Program, and she was a semi-finalist in the Canticum Gaudium vocal competition in Poznan, Poland. Soon after, Sarah was awarded the Best Opera Singer Award of 2016 by the W.I.S.E. Foundation of New England for a performance with Lowell House Opera at Harvard. She served as the Cantor and Soprano Section Leader at Accension Parish in Sudbury, Massachusetts, and other local parishes. Sarah recently completed her Master of Music in Music Education degree (MM MED) in the summer of 2021 from Anderson University in South Carolina.
Sarah has held the manager and assistant festival coordinator position for the MMEA Junior District Festival’s Northeast district. She has prepared students for Micca Solo and Ensemble, MMEA Senior District, All-State, and National Choirs, Handel and Haydn Society Youth Choruses, and college auditions for Gordon College, Ithaca College, the Hart School, and Berklee College of Music for music performance and education. She is a member of the National Piano Guild.
Sarah has been teaching since 2009 and has been with Note-worthy Experiences since July 2018, where she teaches online and in-person piano and voice lessons.
