Teaching Philosophy: “I aim to help students achieve their goals by working out of their specific interests and musical passions. Each lesson is tailored uniquely to the student, regardless of background or stylistic interests. We will work to develop good practice habits, while also building a strong foundation in music theory, timing, tuning, and ear training to ensure they are prepared for a variety of musical situations.”

Biography: Alex Formento is a guitarist and steel guitarist from Saddle River, New Jersey. He attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he received a B.A. in Guitar Performance in 2020.

Since picking up guitar at the age of 11, Alex has immersed himself in a variety of musical styles. Growing up on his parents’ classic rock and blues records, he eventually took an interest in jazz music and played in the Rockland Youth Big Band for two years. He studied with guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli before moving to Boston for school. While at Berklee Alex began to focus on flatpick-guitar and continues to play out in Boston’s thriving roots music scene. Since 2016 he has been playing in the Bluegrass band “Pretty Saro”, and has appeared at Grey Fox, Joe Val, Podunk, Club Passim, and many other venues around New England. In 2018, the group was the winner of the Podunk band competition award and returned to the festival to play the following year. Additionally he has appeared with numerous artists on his second instrument, the pedal steel guitar. In 2022 he recorded on the debut record for Rachel Sumner & Traveling Light, and played with the group that year at Club Passim as well as the Ossipee Valley Music Festival in South Hiram, Maine.

Alex has been teaching since 2017 and joined Note-worthy Experiences in January 2023.
